Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menilai persepsi pelajar terhadap sumbangan pakar industri dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan praktikal peruncitan dalam kalangan pelajar Diploma Pengurusan Peruncitan di Politeknik Malaysia. Masalah utama yang dikenalpasti adalah jurang antara pengetahuan teori yang diperoleh di dalam kelas dengan amalan sebenar di tempat kerja. Kajian ini dijalankan menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif melalui pengedaran borang soal selidik melalui google form kepada 78 orang pelajar. Rangka kerja teori yang digunakan menumpukan kepada hubungan antara sumbangan pakar industri dan pengukuhan pengetahuan praktikal pelajar dari aspek pemahaman, kemahiran insaniah, dan motivasi. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan majoriti pelajar bersetuju bahawa kehadiran pakar industri membantu mereka memahami dengan lebih mendalam konteks sebenar industri peruncitan. Selain itu, pelajar melaporkan peningkatan keyakinan untuk menghadapi latihan industri serta lebih jelas tentang hala tuju kerjaya mereka. Kesimpulannya, penglibatan pakar industri dilihat sebagai satu strategi berkesan dalam menambah nilai kepada proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran serta perlu diperluaskan dalam kurikulum politeknik secara sistematik.

This study aims to evaluate students’ perceptions of the contribution of industry experts in enhancing practical retail knowledge among Diploma in Retail Management students at Malaysian Polytechnics. The main issue identified is the gap between theoretical knowledge acquired in the classroom and real workplace practices. This research employs a quantitative approach through the distribution of online questionnaires via Google Form to 78 students. The theoretical framework focuses on the relationship between the contribution of industry experts and the enhancement of students’ practical knowledge in terms of understanding, soft skills, and motivation. The findings indicate that the majority of students agree that the presence of industry experts helps them gain a deeper understanding of the actual retail industry context. Furthermore, students reported increased confidence in facing industrial training and greater clarity regarding their career direction. In conclusion, the involvement of industry experts is seen as an effective strategy to add value to the teaching and learning process and should be systematically integrated into the polytechnic curriculum.
